Your Natural Resources Division



Staff at in the Natural Resources division fulfill a multitude of tasks with the mission of protecting the natural and historic resources of Alachua County.

Our work 

We apply our specialized environmental expertise and collective knowledge of Alachua County's natural resources to provide environmental planning, enforcement, compliance, and review services to ensure compliance with the Comprehensive Plan and Land Development Regulations.  Natural Resources program staff provide timely and accurate complaint investigations, inquiry response, compliance inspections, enforcement activities, guidance on best practices, interagency coordination, and reviews for all building permits, development and plat reviews, Comprehensive Plan Amendment requests, and zoning applications.

Objectives

  • Protect natural resources during all stages of development, from the land use planning to the administrative permit review process, from activities that would significantly damage the ecological integrity of these areas
  • Inform and educate the general public about natural resources protection best practices and requirements
  • Seek compliance of sites that are found to be in violation of the land development code
  • Provide technical assistance and/or collaboration in the area of natural resource protection to other agencies, departments, organizations, and citizens of Alachua County.

Mission

To protect the natural and historic resources of Alachua County and reduce environmental impacts of land development through environmental planning, environmental review, compliance and enforcement, and technical assistance services.
