ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - Alachua County Fire Rescue Chief, Ed Bailey recently announced his retirement from the Department. His retirement goes into effect December 11, 2014.
Chief Bailey began his fire rescue career in 1975 with the Town of Orange Park Fire Department (OPFD). He left OPFD in October 1980 to join Alachua County as a paramedic/attendant and the Department’s first certified firefighter. He advanced through the ranks to becoming the Fire Rescue Chief in February 2010.
In a letter to the County Manager Chief Bailey stated, “For the second time in my nearly 39 year fire rescue career I am tendering my resignation from my full-time employment, and for the first time formally announcing my retirement.” Chief Bailey also wrote, “My time with Alachua County has been a personal and professional evolution of growth and endearment. Now, it is time to open another chapter in my life.”
