May Environmental Horticulture Programs

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - The UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office is pleased to announce the following Environmental Horticulture Programs for May, 2014. These programs are being offered by Wendy Wilber, Environmental Horticulture Agent, at the UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office (2800 NE 39 Avenue, Gainesville).

Growing Small Fruits – May 7, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Figs, loquats, grapes and persimmons are just a few of the many fruits that will grow in landscapes or small orchards. This class covers variety selection and maintenance as well as trouble shooting.

Groundcovers & Turf Alternatives – May 8, from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

This class will demonstrate which groundcover plants will grow in the shade, full sun and in tough places.

Perennials & Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ – May 14, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Perennial plants can add low maintenance, color and attract butterflies and hummingbirds to yards. Learn how to create a perennial garden that is beautiful and Florida-Friendly.

Converting to Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ – May 21, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Learn to make changes in the landscape that will save water and protect groundwater. Plant selection, micro-irrigation and rain barrels will be covered.

There is no cost to attend these classes, space is limited; pre-register at least 3 days prior to class by calling 352-337-6209 (voice mail).
