County Moving Full Speed Ahead on Road Projects - CR 236 Project Begins

Monday, November 14, 2016 4:00 PM

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - The Alachua County Commission is pleased to announce the start of the County Road 236 project. The project features resurfacing of N.W. CR 236 from US 441 to I-75, redressing grassed shoulders and filling in sidewalk gaps in High Springs. The total length of the project is approximately 4 mile.

Building on last year’s General Fund increase, the Alachua County Commission again demonstrated their commitment to tackling the issue of the County’s deteriorating roadways in their Adopted FY17 Budget. In addition to Gas Tax funding, the Commission increased General Fund contributions to roads by over 27% (from $2,577,760 to $3,285,536). This is the second year in a row that the Commission has increased funding for Roads. Also, the Commission took steps during the year to adjust the resurfacing policy to allow for more road projects to be completed.

Under this new policy, the Commission committed to 4 road-resurfacing projects in the coming year:

  • Tower Road
  • N.W. 43rd Street
  • CR 236 in the High Springs area
  • S.W. 62/63
