ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - The Alachua County Division of Veteran Services invites the community to the “Great War Centennial,” the 100th Anniversary of the U.S. entry into World War I. The event is on Saturday, April 8, 2017, beginning at 11 a.m., at the Alachua County Veterans Memorial Park (7340 S.W. 41st Place, Gainesville). Attendees are welcome to bring a photo of their family member, friend, or loved one who served during World War I to show during the reception. This event is free and open to the public. There will be a reception with refreshments to follow the event program at the Freedom Center.
The ceremony includes
“As time goes by the service and sacrifices of those who served before us has not gone unremembered nor unappreciated,” said Veteran Services Director Kim Smith. “We will take this time to recognize the 100th anniversary of the United States’ entry into World War I, and reflect on their courage, commitment, and sacrifice.”
