Firefighter for a Day 2017

·         LOCATION – Loften High School, 3000 E. University Ave. Gainesville, FL 32641
·         ORGANIZATIONS INVOLVED – Alachua County Fire Rescue, Local 3852 Union, Loften High School Academy of Fire & EMS, KISS 105.3 FM
·         EVENT DESCRIPTION – This is a community event focused on engaging the local community with the Alachua County Fire Rescue Department (ACFR). This dynamic event will give people of all ages a chance to ask questions and be informed of what their fire department services are and what it has to offer. They will also be able to participate in performing skills and tasks that are done on a daily bases. Multiple units will be on display and there will be Jaws of Life demonstration performed by ACFR crews. Concessions, music and entertainment will also be provided. This event will personally bond the community with its local Fire Department.
·         LIST OF EVENTS:
o   Fire Truck Tours – Fire apparatus tours/Q&A
o   Ambulance Tours – Ambulance tours/Q&A
o   Search & Rescue – Participants put on firefighting gear and perform search and rescue with a trained firefighter inside our training building
o   CPR Demo – Participants will be shown how to perform CPR by trained professionals and our local Fire/EMS Academy student from Loften High
o   Combat Challenge – Guests will get to watch our department Fire Combat teams compete against each other
o   Concessions – Our local union and other venders will be providing food and drinks
o   Q&A Sessions – Guest will be able to ask questions about Fire/EMS related issues
o   Jaws of Life Presentation – 2 separate extrication demonstrations (11:00AM and 1:00PM) will take place for the public to see what happens in major vehicle accidents
o   Spray a Fire Hose – participants will be able to operate a fire hose
o   Put on Fire Gear – Participants will get to try on firefighter gear and get the experience of what it takes to be a firefighter
o   PT Station – Participants will get to see and participate in some of the training and work-outs that firefighters use to prepare themselves for duty
·         Recruitment and Mentoring – guests who are interested in a career as a firefighter will be able to talk with professionals. Also, mentors will be on hand to explain the next step in becoming a firefighter.
·         Guests will have everything explained and are required to sign waivers for participation and photography
·         Bathroom facilities are provided with assistance for the disabled
·         An ACFR Ambulance unit will be on stand-by in case of an emergency
