​​Individuals are sentenced to probation by a County Court Judge for misdemeanor and criminal traffic offenses. The probationers are assigned an officer to monitor compliance with the conditions established by the Court for a designated period of time. The maximum sentence is one year, but it is possible to have consecutive sentences, which would result in longer probation periods. 

Some of the conditions of supervision include: monthly reporting; participation in treatment; maintaining employment; supporting defendants; performing community service; paying court-assessed fines; restitution; court costs; cost of supervision; curfew; random urinalyses (UA); breathalyzers; and incurring no new law violations. 

Probation officers are required to visit probationers at their homes and places of employment when necessary. 

The program schedules the Victim Impact Panel (VIP) through Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), which is court-ordered for first-time DUI offenders. The Victim Impact Panel meets once per month. 

Court Services provides oversight of probationers who require specialized services due to the nature of their offenses, such as Domestic Violence or Interval Sentencing.

Interval Sentencing

Interval Sentencing provides judges with an alternative to sentencing offenders to Straight Time at the county jail. Offenders who do not pose a threat to the community, and who are employed, are allowed to report on weekends (or other specified intervals) to teh Alachua County Sheriff's Department of the Jail. A Community Service staff monitors offender's attendance and reports compliance or non-compliance of each client to The Court and to Probation Staff. 

Probationers are sentenced to Interval Sentencing in County Court, and must report to Court Services within 72 hours of being sentenced.

Fees

The monthly Cost of Supervision fee is $50.00. Probationers who exhibit an inability to pay may perform community service work hours in lieu of paying cost of supervision and some of the court assessments. Probationers are responsible for paying fees to the selected providers for any classes or treatment ordered by the Court. Probationers ordered to perform community service are assessed a fee for this service.

Those clients placed on Interval Sentences will be required to pay $40 Cost of Supervision every month while on Probation.
