Alachua County Fire Rescue (ACFR) has deployed multiple teams and equipment to assist with the Hurricane Michael response efforts in the Florida Panhandle. The ACFR Mutual Aid Radio Communications (MARC) team will provide communications support for three Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) Task Forces (about 150 people). This vital asset allows radio communications between rescue teams and command officers when the normal area communication networks are damaged. ACFR has also sent a Rescue Strike Team to assist with patient care and evacuation as needed. They have also sent their Medical Support Unit (which is capable of holding 24 patients) and three ambulances, all fully staffed with Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) and Paramedics.
In speaking of the deployment, County Manager Michele Lieberman said, “Alachua County was so fortunate that the path of this storm did not impact our citizens. Now it is time for Floridians to come to the aid of those in need.”
“This hurricane has been reported to be one the strongest hurricanes ever to hit the United States, and damage is severe,” said ACFR Deputy Chief Harold Theus. “Crews from all over Florida (and several other states) will be working around the clock to provide search, rescue, aid and recovery to those affected by the storm for days and weeks to come.”
