Tuesday, March 29, 2011 9:45 AM

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - The Alachua County Board of County Commissioners (BoCC) will hold a public hearing on the adoption of the updated Alachua County Comprehensive Plan to implement the recommendations adopted by the Board in the Evaluation and Appraisal Report (EAR) in 2009. The Commission will take comments from the public and consider adoption of these Comprehensive Plan amendments at its Public Hearing scheduled for Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at 5 p.m. in the Jack Durrance Auditorium on the second floor of the County Administration Building (12 SE 1st Street, Gainesville) and may also be viewed on the County’s Video on Demand website live or any time thereafter.

These amendments include a new Community Health Element and new Energy Element, as well as updates and revisions to several other Comprehensive Plan Elements including Future Land Use, Potable Water and Sanitary Sewer, Housing, Solid Waste, Stormwater, Conservation and Open Space, Recreation, Economic, Capital Improvements and Intergovernmental Coordination. Materials and background information are posted online at http://www.alachuacounty.us/ear.

On October 5, 2010, the Board voted to transmit the amendments (CPA 08-10) to the Florida Department of Community Affairs for review and comment as required by state statute.  The Department of Community Affairs (DCA) then issued its Objections, Recommendations and Comment (ORC) Report to the County on December 17, 2010, and also sent comments provided by other agencies such as the St. Johns River Water Management District and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. Some revisions to the updated policies transmitted in October addressing these comments are included in the amendments as part of the County’s response to these comments; details are available for viewing on the website.

For more information or to provide comments on the amendments and sign up for email updates, email the Comprehensive Planning Division in the County’s Growth Management Department at ear@alachuacounty.us, call 352-374-5249, or visit the planning office on the third floor of the County Administration Annex Building (10 SW 2nd Avenue, Gainesville). Any comments received prior to the public hearing will be compiled and distributed to the County Commission for consideration.
