Community Meeting About Eastside CRA

Wednesday, July 27, 2011 3:00 PM

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - The public is invited to attend and participate in an upcoming community meeting hosted by the Alachua County Growth Management Department to discuss an Eastside Community Redevelopment Area (CRA) focused on the unincorporated portion of Alachua County, within the general area east of the Gainesville City limits to Newnan’s Lake. The meeting is Thursday, August 11, 2011, at 6 p.m., at the Compassionate Outreach Ministries’ Fellowship Hall (320 SE 43rd Street, Gainesville).

A CRA is a defined sub-area of a city or county where revitalization and economic development is promoted by a Community Redevelopment Agency through investments in community improvements to foster job and income growth and address community needs.

This meeting is in follow-up to initial public workshops held earlier in the year to gain community input. Based on that input, the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners directed staff to proceed with the next steps in the process of establishing a CRA.  At this meeting, community input will be sought on the specific factors for determining the need for a community redevelopment area, as well as discussion on the possible CRA boundaries.  Continued community participation is vital to this process.
