ALACHUA COUNTY, FL – In order to keep the public well informed on important zoning and land-use issues, Alachua County is augmenting its process of advertising these events.  In addition to legally required efforts such as newspaper advertising and mail outs to residents within 500 feet of the site, the County will begin sending press releases as well as posting on Facebook, Twitter, the County Website, the County newsletter, and on local government access channel 12.

Items for the August 17, 2011 6 p.m. Planning Commission Meeting (room 209 of the County Administration Building located at 12 SE 1st Street downtown Gainesville)                       

INTERNET CAFÉ – A public hearing for a special exception for an internet center at 7750 West Newberry Road The special exception (ZOX-02-11), if approved, would allow an internet center (also referred to as an internet café) in an existing structure (the former Pizza Vito Restaurant) located on the north side of Newberry Road west of the Newberry Square Shopping Center.  This is the first of two public hearings for this request.  All materials related to this application are available for review at the Office of Growth Management.  Please contact the Alachua County Growth Management Department at 374-5249 or Jerry Brewington at glb@alachuacounty.us for further information. 

PLANNED DEVELOPMENT – A public hearing for a rezoning from A (Agriculture) district to PD (Planned Development) district at the SW corner of State Road 232 and NW 290th Terrace The PD (Planned Development) rezoning (ZOM-10-10), if approved, would allow five (5) residential lots, outdoor recreation uses including a golf course with customary accessory uses, a tennis center, community gardens and a winery/vineyard.  Public participation in the hearing process is encouraged.  This is the first of two public hearings for this request.  All materials related to this application are available for review at the Office of Growth Management.  Please contact the Alachua County Growth Management Department at 374-5249 or Missy Daniels at mdaniels@alachuacounty.us for further information. 

WILDLIFE SANCTUARY – A public hearing for a special exception for a wildlife sanctuary located at 8528 East County Road 225.  The special exception (ZOX-01-11), if approved, would allow a wildlife sanctuary (housing non-domesticated exotic species) in an ‘A’ (Agriculture) zoning district on approximately 249 acres.  This is the first of two public hearings for this request.  All materials related to this application are available for review at the Office of Growth Management.  Please contact the Alachua County Growth Management Department at 374-5249 or Jerry Brewington at glb@alachuacounty.us for further information. 

Item for the August 18, 2011 1:30 p.m. Development Review Committee (room 209 of the County Administration Building located at 12 SE 1st Street downtown Gainesville)           

CVS PHARMACY –The project to be heard is a Final Development Plan for a proposed CVS Pharmacy to be located at the NW corner of the intersection of NW 23rd Avenue and NW 43rd Street.  CVS is proposing to redevelop the northwest corner of NW 43rd Street and 23rd Avenue, where a restaurant and small strip shopping center are currently located.  The new development will consist of a new, one-story CVS store with drive-through.  All materials related to this application are available for review at the Office of Growth Management.  Please contact the Alachua County Growth Management Department at 374-5249 for further information.
