Tuesday, August 7, 2012 4:00 PM

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - Alachua County Animal Services is now resuming normal operations and is adopting out and receiving cats.

With help from Dr. Levy, along with her staff from the University of Florida, Animal Services is now confident that the outbreak of Panleukopenia has been neutralized. The virus was contained to a litter cats that were already infected prior to their arrival and was eradicated before it could spread to the rest of the population.

Animal Services encourages citizens to adopt cats and dogs from the shelter and is currently at capacity with healthy animals.

To adopt animals visit the Alachua County Animal Services Headquarters (3400 NE 53rd Ave, Gainesville), Tuesday through Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

For more information, contact Interim Shelter Supervisor Jessica Lauginiger at 352-264-6870 or JLauginiger@AlachuaCounty.US.
