ALACHUA COUNTY - On Wednesday morning, February 7, 2007, County officials responded to a sewage overflow discovered in the vicinity of the Alachua County Jail off of NE 39th Avenue.  The failure of a grinder pump at a County lift station was determined to be the cause of the spill.  County Environmental Protection investigators determined that the spill overflowed into a wetland area but did not impact any area creeks.  Efforts were made to recover and treat the spilled sewage.  An estimated 7,000 gallons of sewage was recovered for proper treatment.
