ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - The Tuesday August 19, 2008, 8 a.m.  briefing by the National Weather Service continued to stress that at the moment, Tropical Storm Fay will likely be a heavy rain event in Alachua County.  A Tropical Storm Watch is still in effect as well as a Flood Watch.  It is not anticipated, currently, to be a major wind event.

The storm will be monitored closely as there is the possibility of it drifting in to the Atlantic, gaining strength, and doubling back on Florida.

Alachua County Public Schools will remain opened.  No shelters will be opened unless a shift in the storm takes place.

Alachua County Emergency Management announced today that the August 21st SKYWARN class is CANCELLED.

The Alachua County 311 information line will continue to be updated with the most current information concerning Tropical Storm Fay.
