TS Fay Update #24 After Actions

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - The center of Tropical Storm Fay is now 45 miles southwest of Tallahassee.  Alachua County has experienced 3 - 6.5 inches of rain and flooding is still a possibility particularly as rains from Georgia flow into Florida rivers.  Alachua will remain under a tornado watch until 3 p.m. today.
 
Some utilities customers are continuing to experience power outages, but crews are working diligently to restore power.
 
Both the general population and special needs emergency shelters are in the process of closing.
 
Alachua County libraries are open normal hours.  The Alachua County Supervisor of Elections has announced that early voting will be open today from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and today is the last day for early voting. 
 
Curbside collection of solid waste, recycling and yard trash in Gainesville and Alachua County will resume today.  Friday collection services will occur today and regular collection service will resume next week.
 
The five County Rural Collection Centers are open for their regularly scheduled hours of operation, 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Saturday, August 23, 2008 and closed on Sunday, August 24, 2008.   The Leveda Brown Environmental Park and Transfer Station will be open for regular hours of operation, Saturday, August 23, 2008, 7:00 a.m. - noon.
