Electric Vehicle Demonstration

Friday, October 17, 2008 1:00 AM

10:25 a.m.

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - Street-legal Neighborhood Electric Vehicles (NEVs) will be in downtown Gainesville for a demonstration on Wednesday, October 22 at 5:30 p.m., located on SE 1st Avenue next to the County Administration Building. More affordable than conventional vehicles, these plug-in electric vehicles are used for commuting and can be a strategy to combat high gasoline prices. The public is encouraged to attend the demonstration.

After the demonstration, GatormotoUV will make a brief presentation to the Alachua County Energy Conservation Strategies Commission (ECSC) about NEVs. The ECSC meeting will be held in the Grace Knight Conference Room of the Alachua County Administration Building, 12 SE 1st Street Gainesville, FL 32601.

This demonstration is an initiative of the ECSC, an Alachua County advisory committee. The mission of the ECSC is to draft by November 30, 2008 a comprehensive report on energy use, its relationship to climate change, and local socio-economic impacts, including recommendations for actions that may be implemented by the Board of County Commissioners and the community at large.

The ECSC and Alachua County staff are developing a map which depicts existing roads and streets over which these NEVs can travel.

For more information on this presentation, please contact Penny Wheat, chair of the Alachua County Energy Conservation Strategies Commission at: 352-371-2125.
