ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - The Alachua County Board of County Commissioners held a special board meeting today where it was decided to include Friday, January 2, 2009 as a one-time county holiday. The Board considered the addition of this holiday in light of a memo from Governor Crist directing that all State Offices be closed on January 2, 2009. All County offices will be closed Thursday and Friday (January 1st, and 2nd). Regular office hours will resume on Monday, January 5th.
The change in the holiday schedule will not affect County Courthouses. The Courts will be closed on Thursday, January 1st, and will reopen on January 2nd, on their normal schedule.
Residential curbside collection service for solid waste, recycling and yard trash will be delayed one day for the remainder of the week following January 1st. Thursday's collection will occur on Friday and Friday's collection will occur on Saturday.
The Hazardous Waste Center will be closed Thursday and Friday (January 1st and 2nd). It will reopen on Saturday (January 3rd), from 8 a.m. until noon.
The regular schedule for all of these services will resume on January 5th.
