Annual Foster Grandparent Program Luncheon

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - The Alachua County Foster Grandparent Program (FGP) will recognize its volunteers at a luncheon on Friday, December 9, 2016, beginning at 10:30 a.m., at the Best Western Gateway Grand (4200 N.W. 97th Blvd, Gainesville). The luncheon is by invitation only, but the media is invited to cover it.

FGP was established in Alachua County in 1973 and is celebrating 43 years of service in Alachua County. FGP is funded in part by the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners and the Corporation for National and Community Service.

Foster Grandparents are National Service volunteers that are placed throughout Alachua County in elementary school, HeadStart classes, child care centers, and after-school programs. These volunteers work one-on-one with at-risk children helping to build basic literacy and math skills as well as assist with improving upon social-emotional development. In exchange for their service, volunteers receive a tax-free stipend of $2.65 per hour, meals, assistance with transportation, and supplemental insurance.

The program is accepting applications for new volunteers. Applicants must be Alachua County residents 55 or over.
