As part of Public Safety Week, Alachua County Fire Rescue is recognizing some of the county’s unsung heroes.

The staff at Parklands Rehabilitation and Nursing Center were given a few gifts from members of the community as a thank you for all that they have done during the pandemic.

"It’s been pretty hard on the staff, pretty hard on everybody," said Allen Alexander, Director of Activities at Parklands. "But we managed to pull together and deal with it."

Alachua County Fire Rescue worked with the community to collect art pieces and letters to deliver to the staff and residents of multiple nursing homes in the area.

"We just wanted them to see a new set of faces here," said Alachua County Commissioner MariHelen Wheeler. "And to let them know how much we appreciate the work that they're doing. And that we recognize that their work is heroic and historic."

If you would like to send a letter or a piece of art, you are asked to contact Alachua County Fire Rescue directly.
