April is Fair Housing Month in Alachua County

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - The Alachua County Equal Opportunity Office, in partnership with the City of Gainesville Office of Equal Opportunity, the Alachua County Housing Authority and the City of Gainesville Housing Authority, will sponsor a Fair Housing Workshop on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the Fred Cone Park Library (2841 E. University Avenue, Gainesville). There is no cost for this event and refreshments will be served.

This workshop is designed to provide pertinent information to tenants, homeowners, buyers, sellers, realtors and others regarding housing discrimination and will feature discussions on housing discrimination against LGBT residents. The workshop is primarily conducted by Tequisha Myles of Palm Beach Legal Services.

Alachua County Equal Opportunity Program/Intake Specialist, Jacquelyn J. Hart said, “Housing discrimination does exist.” She continued, “Many don’t know when they are discriminated against or how to report such discrimination. This workshop will provide that information and more.”
