County Under Precautionary State of Emergency

Wednesday, April 30, 2014 1:00 PM

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - Florida Governor Rick Scott has issued a State of Emergency (executive order 14-144) due to recent severe weather and flooding in Florida. Alachua County has been included in this as a preemptive and precautionary measure by the State. While there is a flood warning for the Santa Fe River at Fort White, impacts from the current storm system to Alachua County have yet to occur and are forecasted to be minimal. County Emergency Management officials are monitoring the situation and will respond to any future impacts as the situation dictates.

Emergency management officials would like to encourage citizens to use this time to prepare by reviewing their insurance policies and whether or not they include flood insurance. Additionally, residents should review their family disaster plans and supply kits in preparation for hurricane season.

“Now is the time for residents to prepare or review their preparations not only for flooding, but the upcoming hurricane season as well.” stated Emergency Management Director Dave Donnelly.
