ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - The new edition of Alachua County’s “Take 5” highlights the Business and Economic Growth Workshop hosted by Alachua County and the Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce. It premieres Friday May 30, 2014 on the Alachua County Facebook site and at 8 p.m. on Community 12 TV. The initiative was a public-private partnership between the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) and the Chamber of Commerce.

Alachua County Commissioner Susan Baird championed the workshop which was co-organized by County Growth Management Director Steve Lachnicht, County Economic Development Coordinator Edgar Campa-Palafox, County Development Services Planner Leslie McClendon, Growth Management Department staff and the Chamber of Commerce.

The intent of the workshop was to discuss improving the outlook on business and economic growth in the County and to present the recently created Strategic Plan for Economic Development. The plan was created by the Alachua County Economic Development Advisory Committee (EDAC). The BoCC is looking for feedback, recommendations, and ideas for implementation.

In speaking of the event Alachua County Growth Management Director Steve Lachnicht said, “The Business and Economic Growth Workshop successfully brought together a diverse group of community and business leaders discussing many potential ideas to promote community development. With that information, the Alachua County Economic Development Advisory Committee will refine the ideas into an implementation plan expected to be completed and presented to the County Commission later this summer.”
