ALACHUA COUNTY, FL – July is Disability Awareness Month in Alachua County. The Alachua County Equal Opportunity Office along with the City of Gainesville Office of Equal Opportunity, the Center for Independent Living and the Alachua County School Board will host an informational workshop and expo to mark the 24th anniversary of the American with Disabilities Act (ADA). The event is on Thursday, July 24, 2014, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Sidney Lanier Center (312 NW 16th Ave, Gainesville). It is free and open to the public. Employers, business owners and service providers are especially encouraged to attend. Please RSVP by July 18, 2014.

Jack Humburg, Florida Network Administrator for the South East ADA Center will present a workshop titled, “Is your business accessible to all customers?”  The discussion will focus on the legal obligations to make services and facilities accessible to customers with disabilities. There will also be a roundtable discussion on employing individuals with disabilities and resources available for small businesses.
