Helping Our Soldiers Call Home

Wednesday, April 5, 2006 1:00 AM

The Alachua County Tax Collector's office has collected over 300 used cell phones and about the same number of accessories. Cell phones are sent for recycling and the money raised buys calling cards for military personnel. Cell Phones for Soldiers has sent our office a supply of calling cards.

Representatives of the Tax Collector's office will be attending the Thursday, April 6th meeting of the Military Support Group of Alachua County to give them the cards. The cards will then be included in the care packages they send to the troops. The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church of Alachua, 14805 NW 140 th St in Alachua , Florida .

The Tax Collector's office will continue to receive cell phones for recycling; phones can be dropped off at any one of our branch offices. It is the desire of the Tax Collector's office to provide calling cards to troops and if you know a military person in need of a calling card you can visit the Cell Phones for Soldiers website for more information at the following web site www.cellphonesforsoldiers.com
