Jail Barracks Ribbon Cutting

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - The Alachua County Commission and the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office will cut the ribbon on the new Jail Barracks building on Tuesday December 16, 2008, at 2 p.m.  The event will take place at the new building on the south side of the jail complex located at 3333 NE 39th Ave. Gainesville. 

Speakers at the event will include County Commissioner Paula M. DeLaney, Sheriff Sadie Darnell, County Manager Randall H. Reid, Jail Director Robert Woody, and County Facilities Manager Charlie Jackson. 

The media and the public are invited.  Refreshments will be served.

The $4.34 million, 15,336 sq. ft. project will add 168 beds to the current inventory. 

Jail Barracks features include:

  • Energy-efficient HVAC
  •  ICON Water Reduction System (saves over 16 to 17 million gallons)
  • From 3.5 gal per flush to electronic 1.6 gal toilets with locked controls
  • Tamper resistant timer controls for lavatories and showers
  • State of the Art Video Visitation (installed next quarter)
  • RINAI Tankless water heaters
  • Twenty (2) Person security cells
