Friday, November 18, 2005 12:00 AM

The Alachua County Public Works Department is beginning to implement the pavement management program that was approved by the Board of County Commissioners in February of 2005. The program will begin with the resurfacing of NE 53rd Avenue between US 441 and Waldo Road. This project begins on November 29, 2005 and will be completed within 90 business days.

At the same time, resurfacing will also be starting on SW 24th Avenue between Tower Road and SW 43rd Street. The County has contracted with VE Whitehurst & Sons, Inc. for the NE 53rd Avenue resurfacing and with John C. Hipp Construction Equipment Company, Inc. for SW 24th Avenue.

Drivers should expect delays. Lane closures will occur between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily, with the exception of holidays. Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes.
