Homeless Veteran Stand Down Event

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - The 2009 Homeless Veteran Stand Down Committee is pleased to announce this year's 2 day event.  The Stand Down/Resource Fair will be held at the C.R. Layton Army Reserve Center (1125 NE 8th Avenue, Gainesville) on October 23 and 24, 2009, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. both days.  Service providers wanting to participate may contact Mary Jane Deedrick at the Alachua County Veteran Services Office at 352-264-6740.

The annual Homeless Veterans Stand Down/Resource Fair offers services including: medical screening, dental screening, haircuts, VA enrollment, VA claim assistance, Food Stamp information/application assistance, Social Service assistance, job information, veterans' organizations and volunteers, VA Homeless Program, food and clothing. Lunch will be provided.

"Stand Down" is a term initiated in the military for soldiers to return to the rear from the front lines for personal care and relaxation.
