Fire Rescue Adds Critical Care Rescue Unit to Fleet

Thursday, October 30, 2014 12:00 PM
ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - Recently Alachua County Fire Rescue, (ACFR), added a Critical Care Rescue, (CC1), to its fleet. The unit is staffed with Critical Care Paramedics. With this addition a new level of transport capabilities and care are now available to the citizens of Alachua County.

CC1 improves upon the current level of service by handling critical care patient transfers requiring a specialized level of care such as ventilators, IV pumps, chest tubes and the administration and management of specialized drugs which allows them to provide care for the very medically complex patient that has previously been offered only in the intensive or critical care units of a hospital.
The addition of this unit will also reduce the number of transfers assigned to primary rescues improving response times and unit availability.
ACFR in its dedication to provide a high level of service is currently providing Critical Care training to the Department’s Paramedics to enhance its advanced life support capabilities and hopes to add additional critical care units in the near future.
