Local Planning Agency/Planning Commission Vacancies

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - Alachua County is seeking volunteers to fill several vacancies on the Local Planning Agency (LPA)/Planning Commission. The LPA/Planning Commission is responsible for making recommendations to the County Commission for updates to the comprehensive plan; reviewing and making recommendations on rezonings, special use permits, special exceptions, and on land development regulations upon the request of the Board of County Commissioners.

The Planning Commission is comprised of eight members serving four-year terms. The membership includes:

  1. Three members that are state-licensed or state-registered building industry-related professionals, including architects, contractors, engineers, landscape architects, realtors, and surveyors
  2. Three members that are not such state-licensed or state-registered professional, but may have planning or environmental expertise 
  3. One member for either category 1 or 2
  4. One School Board member (appointed by the School Board)


The County has three positions that will become available at the end of July: one state-licensed position, one non-state licensed position, and the third may be from either category.

The LPA/Planning Commission meets once a month on the third Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the County Administration Building (12 S.E. 1st Street, downtown Gainesville).
