ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - Beginning Sunday, November 6, 2011, landscape irrigation will be limited to one day a week in Alachua County. This watering restriction coincides with the end of Daylight Savings Time. When Daylight Savings Time begins (March 11, 2012), the two day restriction will return.

According to Alachua County Environmental Protection Department Water Conservation Coordinator, Stacie Greco, "Lawn and landscape irrigation accounts for almost 60% of residential water use in Florida. Watering wisely promotes healthier lawns and landscapes while conserving Florida's water resources." She continues, "We depend on groundwater for our water supply, as do our springs and rivers. Groundwater levels are currently extremely low in the region."

The landscape irrigation schedule:

  • Saturday at addresses that end in an odd number or have no address
  • Sunday at addresses that end in an even number
  • Tuesday for nonresidential landscape irrigation
  • No irrigation allowed between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

The restrictions apply to groundwater and surface waters withdrawn from a private well or pump or supplied by a public or private water utility.

For more information, visit the County's water resources website or contact Stacie Greco at 352-264-6829 or sgreco@alachuacounty.us.
