Scout Food Drive

Friday, March 19, 2010 1:25 PM

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - Beginning Saturday, March 20, 2010, the Cub Scouts, and Boy Scouts of Alachua County will distribute empty grocery bags to area homes. Residents are asked to fill the bags with nonperishable food and place it outside their front door by early Saturday, March 27, 2010. Scouts will collect the food, which will go to needy families in the local area.

"This food drive is an excellent way to help stock the shelves of our local food banks in this time of great need," commented Alachua County Manager Randall H. Reid, who is serving as the Alachua County Boy Scouts District Chairman. "This is a particularly poignant way for Scouts to celebrate and honor the 100th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America, which occurred on February 8, 2010."
