Brownfields Assessment Grant Meetings

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - Alachua County invites residents to attend one of several upcoming Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Brownfield Assessment Grant meetings.

Alachua County, in coalition with the cities of Alachua, Hawthorne, Newberry, and Waldo is applying for a grant that can provide funds to return abandoned or underutilized commercial or industrial properties to productive use by providing funds to inventory, characterize, assess, and conduct planning and community involvement.

Community involvement is an integral part of this grant application. These meetings will inform residents about resources available for the benefit of rural communities seeking to promote environmental redevelopment, public health protection, economic redevelopment, and job creation at sites and along corridors with documented or perceived contamination issues.

Upcoming meetings include:

·         Hawthorne
Thursday, November 1, 2012, at 6 p.m.
Hawthorne City Hall (6700 Southeast 221st Street, Hawthorne)

·         Waldo
Monday, November 5, 2012, at 6 p.m.
Yerkes Center (14245 Cole Street, Waldo)

·         Newberry
Wednesday, November 7, 2012, at 6 p.m.
Newberry City Hall (25440 West Newberry Road, Newberry)
