ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - Beginning Sunday, March 10, 2013 (beginning of Daylight Saving Time), irrigation restrictions switch from a maximum of one day a week to two days a week.  However, the Alachua County Environmental Protection Department (EPD) encourages residents to limit irrigation to a maximum of once a week.

EPD recommends residents minimize watering needs by replacing thirsty landscapes with native vegetation that requires less water and chemicals.

Alternately, they suggest irrigating as infrequently as possible and checking irrigation systems for the required rain fall shut off devices (as state law requires). Residents may qualify for up to $75 in rebates for properly maintaining irrigation systems.

Alachua County Water Conservation Coordinator, Stacie Greco explains, “The water that supplies our faucets and sprinklers is the same water that supplies our springs, rivers, farms, future water supplies, and wells.”
