Fire crews rescue teens from brush fire in Waldo

​At about 6:30 p.m. on September 6, units from Alachua County Fire Rescue were dispatched to the area of the Louise Hunt Club off County Road 1475, north of Waldo, for a possible brush fire. Units arrived to find a slight haze, and further investigation discovered a 1-2-acre brush fire growing rapidly. The Florida Forest Service responded with two bulldozers to attempt to access.

The meeting is in the Jack Durrance Auditorium on the second floor of the Alachua County Administration Building (12 SE 1st St., Gainesville). Alachua County renovates motels for homeless people as deadlines approach

​Once abandoned and reports of squatters, the properties began to see a change after Alachua County purchased the Budget Inn in 2020, followed by the Scottish Inn two years later. The total renovation cost for both motels is estimated at $8 million.
