​Alachua County Fire Rescue responded to a brush fire north of Waldo Saturday evening.

​At about 6:30 p.m. on September 6, units from Alachua County Fire Rescue were dispatched to the area of the Louise Hunt Club off County Road 1475, north of Waldo, for a possible brush fire. Units arrived to find a slight haze, and further investigation discovered a 1-2-acre brush fire growing rapidly. The Florida Forest Service responded with two bulldozers to attempt to access.

​Alachua County firefighters say the fire broke out at a home behind the Auto Zone store on Newberry Road around 6:00 p.m.​

​When Hurricanes Helene and Milton tore through the region last season, the damage extended far beyond homes and neighborhoods. Animal shelters were left scrambling to care for displaced animals, many of whom had nowhere else to go.

​​The Alachua County Commission will conduct its regular meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2025. The meeting is in the Jack Durrance Auditorium on the second floor of the Alachua County Administration Building (12 SE 1st St., Gainesville). The meeting begins at 11:30 a.m. The meeting will not reconvene at 5 p.m.
