Apply for the Alachua Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Supplemental Program from Home

This press release published at the request of the Florida Department of Health in Alachua County.

childThe Alachua Women, Infants and Children (WIC) supplemental program, administered through the Alachua County Health Department and covering Alachua, Bradford, Columbia, Dixie, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Levy, Lafayette, Suwannee and Union counties, remains open to serve the public during the COVID-19 public health crisis.

“During these stressful times, you can get WIC from home,” said Community Program Manager Diana Duque. “There is no need to come into the office. We are providing enrollment, nutrition education, breastfeeding support, benefit issuance, and community referrals all via phone. If needed, we can accept verification documents through fax or email. Many people are finding themselves in new financial situations, and we want them to know that we are still here, stronger than ever, to help them provide for their families.”

WIC is a nutrition program for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding or who have recently been pregnant, infants, and children under age five.

To find out eligibility, visit the WIC Eligibility Information website. Remember that an expectant mother counts as one person plus the number of children she is expecting. For example, a mother who is pregnant with twins would count as a total of three people.

To begin the enrollment process or to ask questions, call 352-225-4343 or toll-free at 800-494-2543 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

English and Spanish speaking staff are available and can provide services via Language Line to accommodate additional languages.

WIC is an equal opportunity provider.
