7-9-19 Regular Meeting Features the Public-Private Cooperation Construction of Roadway Improvements for State Road 26

County logoAt the Alachua County Commission’s Regular Meeting on Tuesday, July 9, 2019, the Commission will consider whether to accept a proposal and enter into an agreement with The Newberry Park developer (a private entity) for roadway widening and incidental work on N.W. 122nd Street (Parker Road) at State Road 26 (W. Newberry Rd). The meeting begins at 11:30 a.m., in the Jack Durrance Auditorium (Room 209), located on the second floor of the Alachua County Administration Building (12 S.E. 1st Street, downtown Gainesville). The public is encouraged to attend and participate in the discussion of this project.

The Newberry Park developer is required to constructed improvements on Parker Road, at no costs to the County, for safe and efficient access to their development. The County has additional improvements that require completion in order for the intersection to meet the needs of the Capital Improvements Element of the Comprehensive Plan. If the Commission chooses to move forward with the project and work with the developer, significant savings would be realized on the project.

If constructed as a County stand-alone project, the engineer’s estimate is $522,639.39. The estimated cost of the project if the County enters an agreement with the developer is $244,647.14 (this type of partnership is allowed under Florida Statutes 336.71).

The project includes:

  • Dedicated dual left-turn lanes from northbound N.W. 122nd Street to State Road 26 (Newberry Road)
  • Dedicated northbound N.W. 122nd Street through lane
