Animal Control Procedures Reiterated

LOGOIn response to a recent animal attack, Alachua County Animal Services is taking this opportunity to reiterate its procedures concerning off leash, off property, aggressive dogs.

When Animal Services is notified by law enforcement, 911 dispatch, or a citizen, that a dog has gotten off its property and acted aggressively towards a person or a companion animal, an Animal Services Officer will respond. This response will occur 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. If the investigation reveals the complaints are credible, and there are legitimate concerns about the dog owner’s ability to prevent future similar occurrences, the animal will be impounded in the interest of public safety until proper disposition of the case and/or correction of the outstanding deficiencies.

If citations are warranted, the penalty for failure to physically control your dog is $250 for the first offense and $500 for the second offense.
