Annual Foster Grandparent Recognition Luncheon

The Alachua County Foster Grandparent Program (FGP)) will recognize program volunteers at their annual Recognition Luncheon Friday, December 7, 2018, at the Best Western Gateway Grand (4200 N.W. 97th Blvd, Gainesville) from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The luncheon is by invitation only, but the media is invited to cover it.

FGP is celebrating 45 years of service in Alachua County. FGP is funded by a partnership between the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners and the Corporation for National and Community Service, Senior Corps.

Program volunteers, known as Foster Grandparents, are placed throughout Alachua County in elementary schools, Head Start classes, child care centers, and after-school programs. Volunteers work one-on-one with at-risk children helping to build basic literacy and math skills as well as assist with improving upon social-emotional development. Volunteer benefits include a tax-free stipend, meals, assistance with transportation, and supplemental insurance.

The program is accepting applications for new volunteers. Applicants must be Alachua County residents 55 or over and meet income requirements.
