Other than emergency services, all Alachua County government offices will be closed on Thursday, July 4, 2024, in observance of the Independence Day holiday.
Due to the observance of Independence Day, residential curbside collection services for solid waste, recycling, and yard trash will be delayed as follows: Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday collections will occur as regularly scheduled. However, Thursday’s collection will occur on Friday, and Friday’s will occur on Saturday. The regular schedule for these services will resume the following week on Monday, July 8.
The five Alachua County Rural Collection Centers, the Leveda Brown Environmental Park and Transfer Station, the Hazardous Waste Collection Center and the Office of Waste Collection will also be closed on Thursday, July 4. The Leveda Brown Environmental Park and Transfer Station along with the Rural Collection Centers will re-open on Friday, July 5. The office of Waste Collection will re-open on Monday, July 8.

Alachua County Animal Resources will be closed on July 4, 2024, for the Independence Day holiday. They will reopen on Friday, July 5.
Animal Resources Officers respond 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including holidays, to matters affecting public safety and animals in immediate danger. Citizens should dial 911 to report such emergencies on Sundays, holidays, and between 6 p.m. and 8 a.m. nightly.
Visit the Animal Resources website to see the selection of shelter pets awaiting adoption. The website also has information on fostering and other volunteer opportunities. The shelter is open to the public from Tuesday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
