The UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office is pleased to announce the following Commercial Horticulture programs for January 2025. These programs are being offered by Dr. Tatiana Sanchez-Jones, Commercial Horticulture Agent.
Mastering Safety in Protected Structures - January 24, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Alachua County Ag Auditorium (22716 W. Newberry Road, Newberry). In collaboration with Cindy Mercado, Lab Safety Program Manager, UF Environmental Health & Safety, and Devin Leonard, IFAS Embedded Safety and Compliance Officer.
This workshop is designed for producers in protected agriculture. The topics will include physical and electrical hazards, chemical storage and compatibility, ergonomics, and emergency response protocols. This is an excellent opportunity for growers and managers to train themselves and personnel to prevent injuries and avoid accidents.
The registration fee is $15.00 (plus $2.85 Eventbrite fee) and includes refreshments. Participants must register online by January 20. There are no refunds for the registration fee.
Advanced Pruning & Winter Care – January 29, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Alachua County Ag Auditorium (22716 W. Newberry Road, Newberry). In collaboration with Michael Orfanedes, Commercial Horticulture Agent, UF/IFAS Extension Broward County, and George Richardson, Commercial Horticulture Agent, UF/IFAS Extension Duval County.
This workshop is for landscape professionals and the topics will include winter landscape management, proper tree pruning techniques, and engaging in hands-on activities.
Continuing Education Units (CEUs) have been requested for Commercial Lawn and Ornamental, Limited Commercial Landscape Maintenance, Limited Lawn and Ornamental, Ornamental and Turf and Core.
The registration fee of $30.00 (plus $3.85 Eventbrite fee) includes lunch and refreshments. Participants must register online by January 24. There are no refunds for the registration fee.
