The UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office is pleased to announce the following Agriculture and Natural Resources programs for June 2025. Agriculture and Natural Resources agent Kevin Korus is offering these programs.
UF/IFAS Pond Workshop 2025 – June 4, from 5 to 8:30 p.m., at the UF/IFAS Center for Aquatic and Invasive Plants (7922 NW 71st St., Gainesville).
This workshop covers all aspects of pond management. Specialists from the University of Florida will discuss fishpond management (construction, species selection, stocking rates/times, harvesting and calculating pond area/volume), fish health, water quality testing, aquatic weed management and selecting desirable pond plants. Attendees are encouraged to bring pond water and aquatic weed samples for testing and identification.
Continuing Education Units (CEUs) will be available for Aquatic Pest Control and General Standard Core.
The registration fee of $30.00 (plus a $3.85 Eventbrite fee) includes dinner. Participants must register online by June 2. This class is limited to 25 participants, and there will be no refunds for the registration fee.
Private Applicator/Row Crop Pesticide License Course – June 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. (with Commercial Horticulture agent Tatiana Sanchez-Jones), at the UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office (22712 W. Newberry Road, Newberry).
This workshop is designed to provide training for private applicators and agricultural row crop pest control licenses. The private applicator license is required for anyone who applies restricted-use pesticides to their own farm, greenhouse, or nursery. The class is until 1 p.m. If anyone decides to take the test, the participants can stay after 1 p.m.
New license: After the class concludes, exams will be available to attendees who need a license. Let our office know if you need to test to reserve your spot. To test, please apply for a voucher number before the class.
Up to four Continuing Education Units (CEUs) will be offered for applicants with licenses. CEUs available include General Standard Core (482 & 487), Ag Row Crop, and Private Applicator.
The registration fee of $25.00 (plus a $3.52 Eventbrite fee) includes handout materials and light refreshments. Participants must register online by June 15. The registration fee after June 15, or if paying at the door, will be $35.00 (plus a $4.19 Eventbrite fee). This class is limited to ten participants. There will be no refund for the registration fee.
