Tomorrow, January 1, 2020, Alachua County Fire Rescue is placing another 24-hour Advanced Life Support Ambulance into service. This unit was approved by the County Commission to help support the needs of the east side of Alachua County for emergency medical calls and support on structure fires. The addition of this unit, Rescue 34, brings the number of full-time ambulances to 14. The units are staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Alachua County Fire Rescue also has a Critical Care division that has five peak load units that augment the 911 ambulance services in Alachua County, as well as providing higher-level care to critical patient transfers.
Alachua County Assistant Fire Rescue Chief Michael Cowart said, “Rescue 34 will be a great asset to assist with the growing needs of Alachua County.”
There have been over 46,000 calls for medical service in 2019, of which roughly 71% were transported to the hospital.
