Alachua County Animal Resources will host the third annual Whisker Wonderland Adoption Drive on Friday, Dec. 5, and Saturday, Dec. 6, from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at its shelter (3400 NE 53rd Ave., Gainesville).
The two-day event will feature holiday activities, visits from Santa Paws and the Grinch, and free pet adoptions. Community members are invited to meet adoptable animals, tour the facility and enjoy the festivities.
Those not looking to adopt are still encouraged to attend and help spread holiday cheer to the pets in the county’s care.
Animal Resources is also holding a pet supply donation drive throughout December to help restock foster and enrichment supplies for the new year. Donations are accepted Tuesday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the facility or through the department’s Amazon wish list.
Needed items include blankets, dog treats, peanut butter, bottles and Miracle Nipples, kitten formula, heating pads and discs, pâté-style kitten food and adopt-me gear. The shelter can also use any pet supplies, cleaning products, towels, sheets or blankets, new or used. All donated items directly support the animals.
“This event and donation drive highlight how much our community supports its shelter pets,” said Sarah Gilley, the outreach program supervisor for Animal Resources. “Every adoption and every donation truly make a meaningful difference.”
