Community Conversations

The Alachua County Board of County Commissioners periodically host an information sharing activity titled "Community Conversations". Community Conversations is a series of wide ranging discussions of ideas and realities confronting our community in light of the current economic climate and service level expectations.  Community Conversations began in 2009 and are conducted annually with much success.

The meetings feature a brief presentation of the County's budget and current issues facing the county, followed by an interactive table-top activity, where the participant steps into the role of a commissioner in recommending service priorities. During the sessions, participants are electronically surveyed regarding opinions on a number of local issues.

"Public/Private partnerships have become increasingly important in these lean economic times," County Manager Rick Drummond commented, "With Community Conversations, citizens partner with us by lending their thoughts and ideas to the FY2013 budget discussion."
