ALACHUA COUNTY - The location of the Tuesday, January 22, 4:45 p.m. press conference has changed.  Political leaders from Alachua County and its municipalities will now gather at the Downtown Community Plaza in Gainesville to show their support for the joint statement released by the Florida Association of Counties, the Florida League of Cities, and the Florida School Boards Association.  The Community Plaza is adjacent to the County Administration Building located at 12, SE 1st St., Gainesville.

"Amendment 1 makes a broken tax system even worse," said Frank Ortis, mayor of Pembroke Pines and president of the Florida League of Cities, who opposes the amendment. "It will exacerbate an unequal and unfair tax structure where tax bills are based not on the value of your home but are based on a convoluted set of rules that favors some homeowners at the expense of others."
