Wednesday, December 14, 2016 10:00 AM

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL – Alachua County Public Works has scheduled pruning and moss removal of the median crape myrtles on N.W. 16th Avenue from N.W. 43rd Street to N.W. 13th Street. The process is scheduled to begin December 19, 2016, and is to be completed on or before January 4, 2017. Single lane closures may occasionally be necessary during the process.

The work is being performed by International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborists and will follow ANSI300 pruning specifications. The picture above is a before and after representation of the typical pruning procedure. The tree on the right indicates what the trees will look like following the pruning and de-mossing.

Small varieties of crape myrtles (those that have not grown above approximately 10 feet in height) will not be included in this pruning process. A determination on whether they will be replaced with larger varieties, or pruned and de-mossed at a later date is expected to occur in January 2017.
