Santa Fe River Springs Basin Working Group Meeting

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - The Alachua County Environmental Protection Department invites residents to the Santa Fe River Springs Basin Working Group Meeting on Thursday, May 30, 2013, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the Opera House (above the Great Outdoors Restaurant, 65 N. Main Street, High Springs).

The Santa Fe River Springs Basin Working Group is a public forum in which professionals, government entities, and citizens discuss issues and activities that can affect the quality and quantity of water in local springs.

The meeting agenda includes a variety of presentations ranging from a discussion about a current study at Ginnie Springs, to reducing nitrogen from septic systems.

“The Working Group is a great place for citizens to learn about the various issues that affect springs and to meet stakeholders involved in reducing these threats” said Stacie Greco, Alachua County Environmental Protection Department Water Conservation Coordinator.

Following the meeting participants are invited to paddle down the Santa Fe River from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. with local experts. To register, contact Lars Anderson with Adventure Outpost at 386-454-0611 by May 29.  The reduced rate for this trip is $15 for single kayaks or $20 for tandem kayaks or canoes.
