ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - Alachua County Public Works is reopening Poe Springs Park for swimming on July 4, 2013. The hours of the park will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday through Sunday. The park is free and open to the public.

The park had been closed due to needed repairs, including the replacement of the spring’s retaining wall and steps.  In addition to the retaining wall and steps, the park buildings have new roofs, air conditioning, and landscaping. The multipurpose building (lodge) is available for rent.

Poe Springs Park was opened as a County park in 1992. The original retaining wall and steps were constructed in 1994, and were in need of replacement. Work on replacing the spring’s retaining wall and steps began December, 2011. Work was stopped by flooding caused by Tropical Storm Debbie in June, 2012. The project included the removal of the old retaining wall and steps, installation of a stacked block retaining wall, concrete steps and a series of handrails. The cost of the construction contract was $146,730.
