ADA celebration

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - The Alachua County Equal Opportunity Office along with the City of Gainesville Office of Equal Opportunity, the Center for Independent Living and MV Transportation, Inc. will host an ADA Celebration for the 23rd anniversary of the American with Disabilities Act (ADA). The event is on Friday, July 26, 2013, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Martin Luther King Multipurpose Center (1028 NE 14th Street, Gainesville). It is free and open to the public. Employers, business owners and service providers are especially encouraged to attend.

This Annual ADA Celebration will focus on disaster preparedness and emergency management. Speakers will discuss how to prepare for and what to do in the event of a hurricane, tornado or other emergency. Sessions on sensitivity training, disability etiquette, and revised service animal regulations will also be presented.  

Individuals will be able to register with Alachua County Emergency Management for special needs assistance in the event of an emergency. Transportation will be available for persons with special needs through MV Transport.
