ALACHUA COUNTY, FL – The Alachua County Environment Protection Department invites K-12 students to participate in the County’s first “Saving My Alachua” Environmental Art Contest. The contest encourages students to think about what their natural environment means to them and represent that in art form. Submissions must be no larger than 8 ½” x 11” in size, and must be presented horizontally (landscape). The deadline for submissions is Thursday, March 6, 2014.

Artwork should address one of the following topics: water conservation, stormwater pollution, natural habitat protection, wilderness and wildlife protection, or proper disposal of toxic waste.

Rosette ribbons will be awarded for first, second, and third place in each of the thirteen grade categories.  Selected winners will be featured in the 2015 Saving My Alachua Calendar.  All winning artwork will be displayed in the County Administration Building during the month of April, 2014.

Alachua County Senior Planner, Eliana Bardi said, “We are excited to see what the kids in Alachua County cherish about their local environment and what messages and ideas they provide to help us all reduce impacts.”
